Hello! I'm Belén.

I believe we are each born with a natural tendency towards growth, healing, and unique potential, which can be enabled to unfold in us under the right conditions. I view my role as a collaborator and facilitator for this, whether working with an adult, family, or child. I have a background as an early childhood preschool teacher, as well as five years as an art instructor. I am EMDR-Trained for trauma work and have certification in yoga nidra. My heart is in advocacy for children and childhood, believing that what you know first stays with you.

I love to work with people who are feeling stuck, alone, overwhelmed, or faced with difficult feelings and thoughts. I’m also very passionate about helping families connect more to each other.

I am a National Board Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I am also an active member of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia, the American Counseling Association, and the Association for Play Therapy.

Outside of sessions, I have a sixth sense for rainbow spotting and love walking (but not so much running!) 5ks and half-marathons with my kids. I am always happiest somewhere outside.

What Does a Session Look Like With Me?

“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be” -Carl Rogers

I enjoy helping people through therapeutic techniques such as play, music, art, sandtray, books, somatic work, and nature-based interventions. I like to bring an appreciation for each person’s unique strengths and challenges to all the work I do, finding an approach together that honors each person’s style, needs and experience. No two sessions look quite the same.

Favorite Modalities & Therapeutic Interventions

My work is grounded in attachment theory, which emphasizes the important role of early childhood experiences and relationships. These shape how we see ourselves and the world around us. They can also serve as a protective factor throughout our lives. It is through attuned relationship that we learn to make sense of our experiences. In my work with both children and adults, I strive to create a therapeutic environment where each person feels safe, seen, and understood, helping unlock the courage to explore, reflect, and express their truest selves.

My style is holistic; I make sure to consider cultural context, a developmental lens, and a wellness perspective. I also draw from humanistic, psychodynamic, and integrative theories.

In my work with younger children, I most often use child-centered play therapy (CCPT), an evidence-based approach commonly used with children ages 3-12 to help with regulation, emotional vocabulary, increased worldview, and a strengthened sense of self. For children, play creates safety for expression of their world and processing of their experiences. Children live in their hearts, not their heads and child-centered play therapy allows us to meet them there.

Recognizing that relationships are at the heart of healing, I strive to create an environment for each person and family system that fosters care and connection, and helps discover innate strengths, resiliency, and self-compassion for use in everyday life.
