Do You Want Your Child To Improve Their Social Skills?

  • Are you having a hard time connecting with your child or teenager?
  • Have they been struggling to make friends, keep up in school, and manage their emotions?
  • Do you think they would benefit from being in a group therapy program with other kids their age?

Maybe you’ve noticed that your child is anxious, depressed, or dealing with low self-esteem. They might be having trouble regulating their emotions at home or struggling to fit in at school. Perhaps they’ve been feeling very alone in these experiences, and you think they would benefit from knowing they’re not the only one going through a hard time.

On the other hand, maybe you would like more support in your parenting. You might feel like you’ve tried everything you can to connect with your child or teen, but everything you do seems to push them away. As a result, perhaps you’d like to learn and grow alongside other parents in the same boat as you.

Whether you’re seeking group therapy for yourself or your child, Early Connections Child & Family Counseling is here to help. Our group programs are run by licensed child and family therapists who specialize in helping kids navigate emotional and behavioral challenges and empowering parents to support them more effectively at home.

What To Know About Group Therapy With Early Connections

Group therapy provides a supportive space for children to build connections, practice social skills, and work through emotional challenges in a fun, age-appropriate way. And for parents, support groups give them a chance to experience community with other parents and learn valuable tools for helping their children regulate difficult emotions.

You are welcome to participate in our groups whether you are already a client of Early Connections or not. Groups are generally 60-75 minutes long, take place once a week, and run for about 8 to 12 sessions. The children’s groups are always in-person, but parent support groups usually meet virtually.

Consistent attendance is essential to the group therapy process. While we understand that the unexpected sometimes arises, we encourage you to double-check for any upcoming extracurriculars that may interfere with your child’s attendance. To ensure that group therapy is effective and your child has time to really hone the skills they learn, it’s important for them to be able to attend the majority of sessions.

What Groups We Offer For Children, Teens, And Parents

Our practice tailors our counseling groups seasonally and often adjusts group themes based on the specific needs of the kids and teens enrolled. Below is a listing of the groups we offer and the skills we focus on in each one:

Elementary School Connections Group

This group helps kids build their confidence, improve their emotional vocabulary, and practice friendship skills through structured games, creative activities, and therapist-led discussions. We use play therapy, adventure therapy, and other engaging approaches to help elementary school students hone their social skills and learn the value of collaboration in a group setting.

Middle School Connections Group

Middle schoolers will have a safe space to explore common stressors, improve their self-awareness, and build authentic peer connections. We’ll draw from an adventure therapy approach to facilitate creativity, teamwork, and healthy peer interactions.

High School Connections Group

Through a mix of person-centered therapy and adventure therapy, we’ll give high schoolers a chance to share their difficult experiences, build coping skills, and support one another. The high school group is generally less structured than the other groups, as we emphasize letting teens lead the way and giving them autonomy over their own care.

Parent Support Group

Offered alongside our child and teen groups, the parent group provides tools and support for caregivers navigating their children’s emotional and behavioral challenges. Facilitated by a licensed therapist, it helps parents find community with other parents and equips them with tools for co-regulating with their children at home.

Our mission is for all participants in our groups to leave feeling more confident, connected, and emotionally equipped. We want them to gain peer support, learn new coping strategies, and walk away with greater self-awareness and a deeper sense of belonging.
